West Coast Sunrise

March 16th, 2009

Well, I’ve never considered myself a nature photographer, or a wildlife photographer, mostly I deal with humans, that’s what really attracted me to photography in the first place, but when nature deals me a full house, I’ve got to play it. The sun had just risen and I was eating breakfast with some people at the Yellow Point Lodge on Vancouver Island when someone cried out “Whales!” And off we ran. Cruising through the flat calm water, pushing up a small wake as they surfaced again and again, it was the perfect moment- no longer a Kodak moment but a digital delight. Must have been 15 people snapping and not a film camera in sight. The world has changed but not the moments that draw people to press the shutters on their digital wonders.
